Bishop Richard E. Pates became the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines on May 29, 2008.

"In the Heartland With Bishop Pates" is a radio show co-hosted by Bishop Pates and Dr. Tom Neal which airs live at 10 a.m. every Friday on KWKY 1150 AM in Des Moines and KVSS 102.7 FM in Omaha.
