Adoption Services

A New Beginning is a fully licensed adoption agency.  We assist adoptive families by providing extensive training on adoption related issues, home-study preparation, mentoring and support for all involved throughout the adoption process. Our experienced counselors work with the adoptive family and the birth family through the match process, at the time of placement and as the relationship develops. We arrange for the legal services that terminate the birthparent’s legal rights and allow the child to be placed for adoption into the adoptive family and provide post placement support services.

Today’s Adoption

The adoption process today differs from that of the past. Today, most adoptive families meet and know their child’s birth family. Historically, birth parents did not know what would happen to the child they brought into the world, adopted children did not know their social and medical history, and adoptive families did not have access to the information that would assist them in helping their child grow in understanding and love. Today, the adoption process is much more open.

About Open Adoption

A truly "open" adoption is one that promotes the birth and adoptive families participating in a process that encourages communication and relationship building with each other that continues throughout the child’s life. Birth parents meet with prospective adoptive couples and choose which couple will adopt their baby and the level of openness they desire for the adoption.

Open adoption isn’t just a way of doing things, it is a relationship, and looking at how to enhance that relationship. Open adoption is like any other relationships in which you meet, get to know one another, and assess if you want to be committed to a trusting intimate relationship. The skills we use in other relationships are skills we use in open adoption such as good communication, negotiation, compromise, setting boundaries, understanding what the rules are and having flexibility. Having the birthparents involved should not impact the adoptive parents’ ability to parent.

Open adoption is NOT a contract; but a covenant that you enter into with the birth parents in the best interest of the child. It is emotionally freeing to get beyond your fears.
