Family Center

Bilingual Outreach Specialist

The Bilingual Outreach Specialist assists the agency with public and community relations activities with an emphasis on new immigrants and the Hispanic/Latino community accessing services at our food pantry.  Primary responsibilities include developing and disseminating resource information to individuals and families, assisting with referrals, and partnering with community-based providers for cooperative service provision and program development.  This position will also assist the center coordinator in providing oversight of volunteers, food deliveries, distribution of food, recording keeping and reporting.

     

Job Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of six months to one year related experience in public relations or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English, appropriate to situation and objectives.

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting services.

  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel.  Ability to become licensed in the use of data collection software.

  • Valid Iowa driver’s license and required auto liability insurance.

  • Bilingual (Fluent in both English/Spanish).

  • Knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs and practices within the Hispanic Community

  • Ability to work comfortably in Hispanic multicultural and multi- denominational environment.

Emergency Family Shelter

Shelter Staff (part-time)

Catholic Charities is currently recruiting for part-time shelter staff to work overnight and weekend-evening shifts at our family emergency shelter.  In conjunction with other shelter staff, primary responsibilities will be to create a safe and supportive environment for shelter clients, enforce shelter rules, maintain proper documentation, clean and sanitize rooms and public areas, meet all requirements for basic standards of housing, provide crisis intervention and attend meetings and training as required. Must be dependable and adhere to all organization policies and regulations as specified by Catholic Charities and the State of Iowa. 

 

The following shifts are currently available:

Fridays 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., including holidays;

Saturdays 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., including holidays;

Sundays 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., including holidays;

Overnights 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. every other Sunday into Monday with availability to pick up additional overnight shifts during the week as needed, including holidays.  This is a non-sleeping position.

Phoenix House

Housing and Economic Coordinator

As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the Housing and Economic Coordinator is charged with overseeing housing and economic services and staff in all aspects of program development, implementation, and in monitoring progress toward projected goals and objectives.  This position will work in close collaboration with property management and services providers to assist residents in maintaining housing stability and access to community services covering a nine-county service area.  Responsibilities include working with clients and service providers to collaboratively set goals in the areas of income, education, employment, and housing through individual and group facilitation.

  • Solid knowledge of social work and practices as would normally be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field and 1-2 years of related job experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle and ability to meet agency auto insurance coverage requirements.  Regular travel required throughout nine-county service area.  Reliable transportation is required.   

  • Good knowledge and familiarity with needs and resources in the community. 

  • Evening and weekend availability may be required.

  • Requires knowledge of appropriate intervention techniques for working effectively with a variety of problems related to family violence.

  • Prior supervisory experience required.

  • Undergoing and passing criminal background checks required.

Phoenix House

Domestic Abuse Advocate

Reporting to the Domestic Abuse Coordinator, this position provides direct client support and services ensuring basic living needs are met for the client. These needs include safety planning, assessment and intervention for victims of domestic violence. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Perform crisis intervention for clients and hotline callers, including emotional support, resource and action options, and personalized safety planning.

  • Provide information and referral, including crime and abuse education, victim rights education, and community resource referrals (shelter, food, transportation, therapy, etc.).

  • Perform outreach activities in the community, including but not limited to appearances at events, distribution of informational materials, information booths at community events, meetings with other community members, and public presentations.

  • Perform systems advocacy by building partnerships with other agencies in the community.

Phoenix House

Shelter Advocate (part-time)

 

Part-time weekend and overnight positions available.

 

Summary

Provides support to women and children staying at the Phoenix House.  Maintains security of the Phoenix House.  Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the shelter facility.  Assists families in communal living.  Assists with de-escalation and stabilization of critical situations during evening and weekend hours.
