Fish Fry Dinners
The diocese is posting information parishes have shared with us about their Lenten fish fry dinners. This is not intended to be a comprehensive list. Additional parishes may have fish fry dinners.
This list is organized by city.
Altoona, Ss John and Paul -- served every Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) during Lent in the parish hall (1401 1st Ave. S) from 4:30-7 p.m. and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 13109. Menu includes all you can eat: baked or deep fried Alaska pollock fish, baked potato or potato salad, green beans, homemade cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and cheese Pizza for kids. Drinks include coffee, lemonade, iced tea, and water. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children and free for children under 5. Desserts are available for free will donation to support the parish youth groups. If you can’t stay, we’ll box it up for you to go.
Chariton, Sacred Heart -- Served from 5-6:45 p.m. each Friday (Feb. 24 – March 30) in the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Menu includes “all you can eat” deep fried fish, baked fish, baked potato, French fries, potato wedges, baked beans, grilled cheese sandwiches, home made buns and desserts, and drinks are included. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-12, $20 for the family. You are encouraged to attend the Stations Of The Cross afterwards at 7 p.m.
Des Moines, All Saints – Served from 5-8 p.m. in the parish hall each Friday (February 24 – March 30). Sponsored by Knights of Columbus. Menu includes baked and fried fish, macaroni and cheese, and baked potato or fries. Cost is $7 per person.
Des Moines, Basilica of St. John – Served from 4-7 p.m. in the parish hall each Friday during Lent (Feb. 24-March 30). The menu includes fried catfish and seasoned baked pollock, three side dishes, bread, dessert and drink. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-10 and free for children under 3. Join us for Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m.
Des Moines, Christ the King – Hosted by the Knights of Columbus and served from 5-7 p.m. in the parish hall each Friday (February 24-March 30). The menu includes baked and fried fish, baked potatoes, vegetable, salad or cole slaw, rolls, dessert and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 4 – 12. Proceeds benefit Christ the King parish programs. Stations of the Cross will follow the 5:30 p.m. Mass each Friday during Lent. Christ the King is located at SW 9th and Porter in Des Moines.
Des Moines, St. Anthony -- Served from 5-7 p.m. every Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) in the parish hall, 15 Indianola Ave. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children, All are welcome, sponsored by the Father Victor Romanelli Knights of Columbus.
Des Moines, St. Mary of Nazareth -- Served from 4:30-7 p.m. Feb. 24-March 30) in the parish hall, 4600 Meredith Dr, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council #11643.
The menu will include both baked and fried fish, several choices of potato or vegetable, rolls, fruit salad and desserts provided by the women's association. Proceeds again this year will go toward assisting seminarians in the Des Moines diocese. Prices will be $8 for adults (13+), $7 for seniors (60 and older) and $5 for kids 3-12. Children under 3 are free.
Earling, St. Joseph's Parish -- Served from 5-8 p.m. Friday Feb. 24, Cost is $10 for Adults; $5 for children 10 and under. Menu includes: fried fish, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, green beans, dinner roll, and dessert.
Granger, Assumption Parish -- Served every Friday (February 24 – March 30) from 5:30-7 p.m. at the parish hall 1906 Sycamore St. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The menu includes baked fish, hand breaded fried fish, French fries or baked potato, cole slaw, homemade cheese and vegetable pizza, and choice of drinks. Desserts provided by the Catholic Women’s Club. Cost is a free will offering.
Indianola, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish -- Served from 5:30-7 p.m. every Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) sponsored by the Indianola Knights of Columbus. Menu includes hand breaded, deep fried fish, baked fish, baked & french fried potatoes, home made cole slaw, and a fresh baked dinner roll. A dessert bar, run by the parish youth group, will also be available. Cost is $8 for adults (13 years and older), $ for children (12 to 5 years old) and Children under 5 are free. All carry outs are $8.
Norwalk, St. John the Apostle -- Served every Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) from 5:30-7 p.m. Menu includes: Cod, coleslaw, fries, macaroni and cheese, relish, bread and beverage. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for children 12 and under. St. John the Apostle church is located at 720 Orchard Hills Drive.
Osceola, St. Bernard Parish -- Served from 6–7:30 p.m. each Friday (Feb. 24 - March 30) at St. Bernard parish hall: 222 East Pearl St., Osceola; Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for youth (4-12), no charge for children (3 and under) and $25 for a family. Menu includes deep fried fish, baked fish, baked potato, salads, dessert and drink.
Perry, St. Patrick Parish -- Served every Friday night during Lent (Feb. 24-March 30) 5:30 – 7 p.m. at St. Patrick School gym, 1302 5th St. Menu includes choice of baked or fried fish, baked potato, coleslaw, cheese sandwich, beverage and dessert. Cost: $8/adults, $4.50 children (10 and under), $25/families. Sponsored by Knights of Columbus.
Red Oak, St. Mary’s Parish -- Serving from 5-7 p.m. each Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) in the parish hall. Adult meals are $7 and children 5-11 are $3. Children under 5 years are free. The menu includes baked or fried Alaska pollock, macaroni and cheese, french fries, baked potatoes, and homemade coleslaw. The youths of the parish will be selling their brownie and ice cream dessert with the proceeds going to the National Catholic Youth Conference fund. Take-out meals are available. There will be a silent auction fundraiser held during the fish fry on March 9.
Urbandale, St. Pius X -- Served from 5-7 p.m. each Friday (February 24 – April 6). Sponsored by the St. Pius X Holy Name Society and served in the parish center. Menu features baked and fried fish, french fries, Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw and pizza. Beverage is included. Cost: $7 adults, $4 Children (5-12), Families $25.
Waukee, St Boniface -- Serving from 5-7:30 p.m. each Friday of Lent (Feb. 24 – March 30) in the St. Boniface parish hall. Menu includes fried fish, shrimp and baked fish, various side dishes, breakfast potato and a drink. Cheese pizza is also offered. Homemade desserts will be available for purchase by the youth group. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kids ages 3-10, under 3 is free with a $25 immediate family maximum. Sponsored by the Adel/Waukee Knights of Columbus
West Des Moines, Sacred Heart -- Serving from 5:30-7 p.m. each Friday (Feb. 24-March 30) in the Sacred Heart School gym. Menu includes all-you-can-eat fried and baked fish, various side dishes, baked potato or fries and a drink. Cheese pizza is also offered. Homemade desserts will be available for purchase. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 3-10, under 3 is free with a $35 immediate family maximum. All proceeds benefit Youth Ministry programs.
West Des Moines, St. Frances of Assisi -- Serving from 5:30-7 p.m. each Friday (Feb. 24-March 30). Menu includes 2 kinds of fish, mixed vegetables, macaroni and cheese, cheese pizza, 2 kinds of potatoes, bread sticks, salad and drink. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, children 5 and under are free with a maximum cost of $30 per family. Desserts are available from the Boy Scouts for $1.
