The Diocese of Des Moines

Bishop Richard PatesFor more than a century, The Diocese of Des Moines has remained a spiritual pillar in the lives of thousands of Catholics across Southwest Iowa. Each day the Diocese and its eighty parishes strive to spread the message of God and share His gifts with those who need them most. Catholics throughout our great state continually answer God’s call to share; whether they feed the poor, nurture the ailing or shelter the homeless, our parishioners proclaim their faith through their compassion and service.

I am thrilled for what lies ahead for the Diocese of Des Moines. We are well-positioned to strengthen the ministries we exercise, the services we provide and the Christ-centered culture we grow. Sharing God’s Gifts was a historic effort that will have a transformative impact on the future of the Diocese and will strengthen local parish communities across the twenty-three counties we serve. This ambitious campaign required the sacrifices of many. I am ever so grateful to those who answered His call generously.  As followers of Christ, we continue to fulfill our role as devoted stewards of the Church.

I am fortunate to serve as your Bishop. I believe that with the faithful support of our parishioners along with God’s continued blessings, we can set out on a path toward even more fruitful years ahead. May God bless you and your family.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Richard E. Pates

Bishop of Des Moines
