Teacher accepted to Mickelson ExxonMobile Teachers Academy —

The Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Des Moines is pleased to announce that St. Theresa fourth grade teacher Ronda McCarthy is one of 154 teachers from across the United State and the only Iowa teacher accepted into the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy.

Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is an all expense paid, week-long academy held in New Jersey each summer for third-through-fifth grade math and science teachers from across the country. This academy was started by pro golfer Phil Mickelson and his wife, Amy, to provide hands-on experiences in math and science to teachers. This academy is led by science experts from the National Science Teachers Association and Math Solutions. These experts ensure fun, engaging experiences for teachers during the week so the teachers can bring these activities back to their students.

There were 1,200 applicants from across the country for this nationally recognized academy. A team of experts in the science and math fields reviewed the applications and made the selections. They selected 154 teachers from across the United States for this academy.

“I am excited to be part of this learning experience this summer!  I can’t wait to bring these excellent STEM activities to my students next year,” said McCarthy. “I am honored to be selected for this wonderful opportunity.”
