Improvements and Changes at St. Mary Family Center —

Choice Food Pantry

Catholic Charities is excited to be moving to a “choice pantry” to better serve those who are facing food insecurity in our community. Choice pantries allow the client to choose which items they want in their emergency food box, much like shopping in a regular grocery store. This concept not only preserves the dignity and autonomy of the clients but has also been found to reduce food waste. A choice pantry also allows clients who might have a specific health condition to choose food which might better conform to their special diet.

Discontinued Clothing Closet

Due to the enhanced pantry, we will no longer have room to offer clothing at St. Mary Family Center effective January 1, 2017.   Clothing donors and clients will receive information about other agencies in the community who have a free clothing closet to ensure continued access.

Though we understand the importance of providing clothing for our clients, we know that there are several organizations that will be able to continue this same service. Informational fliers will be available to distribute to clients and donors in mid-November.

We look forward to moving the pantry in a new direction as we continue to address food insecurity in our community.   Our hope is that you will support us in this change as we better address the most basic of needs, food.
