Mass for Life — Jan 15, 2015
The four Catholic bishops of Iowa will gather at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines this Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. for the Midwest Mass for Life.
The Mass for Life is held annually to pray in remembrance of those lost to abortion and to commemorate the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling Roe v Wade, which made abortion legal.
Dubuque Archbishop Michael Jackels will join Des Moines Bishop Richard Pates, Sioux City Bishop R. Walker Nickless and Davenport Bishop Martin Amos for the Mass for Life.
A special blessing will be given at Saturday’s Mass to those who are going on pilgrimage to the Mass for Life in Washington, D.C. Iowans for LIFE organized several buses to take pro-life Iowans to the Jan. 22 march. Buses leave Iowa on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and return on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Immediately following the Mass, at 11 a.m., the third annual Midwest March for Life will begin. Organized by Iowa Right to Life, the local march starts at the west steps of the state capitol and will go around the capitol building, ending at the Iowa Supreme Court. After the march, a luncheon and breakout sessions are planned at the Iowa Events Center.
