38th bi-annual Bowen Family Systems Conference - April 26-28, 2012

Marriage & Bowen Theory - Thu., April 26, 2012, Council Bluffs, 8:30 am-4:45 pm
Presenter: Dr. Daniel V. Papero from the Bowen Center

Few bonds in a lifetime are as significant as the marital relationship. Tranquil at times and stormy at others, marriages bend and twist in the face of challenge, some breaking and some emerging from the cataclysm stronger and more resilient. The Bowen theory looks at marriage in the context of the family system, both at the part a marriage plays in a broader system and how it is influenced by that system.
Whether people are at their best or something less with their spouse is determined in part by who each person is, by the nature of the relationship between them, and by the status of the emotional field in which the marriage is embedded. During this conference, Dr. Papero will focus on systems thinking and the application of the concepts of the Bowen Theory to marriage. Register online here.

Presenter: Dr. Daniel V. Papero from the Bowen Center

The Bowen Theory proposes that the level of differentiation of self is transferred cross-generationally. The mechanism of transmission is the family emotional process, and specifically, the family projection process. These ideas will be examined during this conference first to develop their importance in Bowen theory, and second in the light of epigenetic research emerging in the broad field of neuroscience. Finally, the relevance of this idea to clinical practice will be examined and discussed. Register online here.
