Vicar General

The Vicar General is appointed by the bishop and is responsible for assisting the bishop in the general administration of the diocese.

In the Diocese of Des Moines, this is Father Michael Amadeo.

Originally from Des Moines, Father Amadeo's home parish is St. Anthony. He attended Dowling Catholic High School, St. Ambrose University in Davenport (where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology), St. Paul Seminary in Minnesota (where he earned a master's degree in divinity) and St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. In addition, he attended summer school at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.


Father Amadeo has served the diocese through his work in parishes and in the Tribunal, which helps people seeking an annulment. He has served large and small parishes including Sacred Heart in West Des Moines, St. Mary/Holy Cross in Elkhart and Holy Trinity in Des Moines.
