Introducing Bishop-elect William Joensen

Pope Francis named Father William M. Joensen, Ph.D., a priest of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, as the 10th bishop for the Diocese of Des Moines. A news conference will be at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 601 Grand Ave. in Des Moines. It will be carried live at Facebook.com/dmdiocese.

Bishop-elect Joensen's ordination as a bishop and installation in the Diocese of Des Moines will be Friday, Sept. 27 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Des Moines. Watch this web page for details.

On Feb. 12, 2018, Bishop Richard Pates turned 75 years old. Following Canon law, Bishop Pates sent a letter to Pope Francis. This began a selection process that ended with today's appointment.
