Faith Journey Catechetical Institute

The Catechetical Institute is an ongoing formation resource for Catholic adults of the Diocese of Des Moines who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith and further their spiritual formation.

Through the Catechetical Institute, the Catechism is treated as the road map for the journey in faith, with each module of the four-module program focusing on one of the four pillars of the Catechism:

Creed:  The Story in Miniature
Sacraments:  The Blessing Revealed and Communicated
The Moral Life:  Fulfillment in Beatitude
Prayer:  The Blessing Given and Received

 Curriculum and Pedagogy

The curriculum for the foundational course, the Faith Journey Catechetical Institute is based on the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and is covered in four 11-week modules over a two-year period. With the main textbook being the Catechism, the pedagogy of the program centers around guiding the students toward the goal of the Beatific Vision; therefore, the content of the classes is best described as a systematic and organic presentation of the Catholic faith. The structure of the Catechism reveals a road map, a journey toward an end, that being life in the Trinity.

All sessions are on Monday evenings from 7:00 PM - 9PM at the Pastoral Center

In addition to the 11 class sessions per module, there are an additional 2 formative sessions on Saturdays per module.  These formative sessions can be described as mini retreats and are from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM

An online option is available for those who would like to do so

Texts required for all modules:
Catechism of the Catholic Church
The Companion to the Catechism
Bible, preferably the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition or the New American Bible

The cost is $250 per module for the student
There are scholarships available.  Please contact the Director for more information

A certificate is awarded at the completion of the program. The certificate shows that the student has not only completed the course work but has, in writing, reflected on how the content of the faith can be incorporated into his/her life and activities in the Church.
