Novos Young Adults
Novos is a community of young Catholics from all the parishes of the Des Moines metro area, broken and in need of healing, assured of that healing in Jesus Christ and His Church. Dedicated to building community through faith, Novos meets weekly (usually on Thursdays) to celebrate and grow in our faith with one another. Novos draws from all parishes in the Des Moines metro, and is dedicated to helping young adults grow to be more and more connected not only to Novos but to the parishes of our Diocese.
There is no need to sign-up, register, or "officially" be a part of Novos--if you want to come to a Novos event, you're part of Novos! Come to all the events every month, or just come to the ones that strike you as something that will feed you spiritually. Whatever your level of involvement or experience in the community already, everybody is welcome who wants to join.
This Month's Events
Thursday, September 6th: Fall Alumni Kick-Off & Social
The campus ministries and Newman centers from the various schools around the state are throwing a Fall Kick-Off bash for their alums, and Novos is happy to help host. Wear your college colors (no worries if you went to school out of state or didn't go to one of the big schools, rep your school's colors either way) and join us for a night of tailgate games, food, and drink (RSVP by email for a free drink ticket).
Afterwards, everyone's invited to St Catherine of Siena at Drake for the 9:15 Candlelight Mass--1150 28th Street in Des Moines. RSVP with your name and school to either Joe at firstname.lastname@example.org or Justin at email@example.com by September 4th for your free drink ticket.
Thursday, September 13th: Theology on Tap w/ Eve Tushnet
Join us for the first of our three-part Fall Theology on Tap series, focusing on discernment in the context of sexuality, marriage, and family issues. Eve Tushnet is a DC-based author, speaker, and blogger who will share with us her story of discerning God's call in her life. Find out more about her at http://www.patheos.com/blogs/evetushnet/ Food trucks will be on site from 6-7pm, and Eve's talk will start at 7. Come hear her fascinating story of discerning her vocation to love in the Catholic Church--ages 18+ are welcome (but must be 21+ to drink, obviously)
Thursday, September 20th: Pick-up Soccer
Join us on the big field between the baseball/softball fields and the playgrounds at Walker Johnston Park for some soccer before the nights get cold and dark too soon to go outside for these sort of things. We'll start at 6:30 and go until we don't want to play anymore.
Thursday, September 27th: Mass & Brews
We'll be at St. Ambrose Cathedral downtown with Fr. Ross Parker this month. 6:15 Confessions, 6:40 Rosary, 7:00 Mass, then social afterwards at a bar nearby.
