Dedicated to building community through faith, Young Catholics of Des Moines (YCDM) meets weekly (usually on Thursdays) to celebrate and grow in our faith with one another. This community draws from all parishes in the Des Moines metro, and is dedicated to helping young adults grow to be more and more connected not only to YCDM but to the parishes of our Diocese.
There is no need to sign-up, register, or "officially" be a part of YCDM--if you're a young Catholic in Des Moines, you're in! Come to all the events every month, or just come to the ones that strike you as something that will feed you.
Thursday, July 11th: Narratives in Discipleship
Please join us on the rooftop of the Market One Building (130 E 3rd Street, Des Moines, 50309) for the second of our summer Stories of Faith young adult witness & discussion evenings. Social hour starts at 6pm, event starts at 7.
We all should read the Bible, internalize its words, and apply its message to our lives--but most of us consume other types of literature as well. Maybe some of us consume almost exclusively other types of writing. How can we use stories, in particular the works we read every day, to make us stronger in our faith? How can looking at others and recognizing their own distinct stories make us more compassionate Catholics? Where is the danger in hearing only a single story? If beauty can save the world, can reading voraciously help us to expand our definition of what merits saving? And how does this all connect to the greatest story of all time? Through a discussion of her own story of faith, Veronica will work towards answering these questions and showing us how to approach our faith through the lens of a story.

Tuesday, August 6th: Why We Need the Rosary Today
Join us for the final installment of our summer Stories of Faith young adults evenings of witness and discussion. Held on the Rooftop of the Market One Building (130 E. 3rd St., Des Moines, IA 50309), our social begins at 6pm, event begins at 7pm.
The rosary is often misunderstood and underutilized in prayer today, but pushing past those problems reveals a way of building a relationship with God that simply must be reclaimed. Jordan Priest will lead us in a discussion of how the rosary has been integral to his prayer life, and how it can be to ours as well.
