YCDM Thursdays

Dedicated to growing in faith through community, Young Catholics of Des Moines (YCDM) meets weekly (usually on Thursdays) to celebrate and grow in our faith with one another.  This community draws from all parishes in the greater Des Moines metro, and is dedicated to helping young adults grow to be more and more connected not only to YCDM but to the parishes of our Diocese.

There is no need to sign-up, register, or "officially" be a part of YCDM--if you're a young Catholic in Des Moines, you're in!  Come to all the events every month, or just come to the ones that strike you as something that you need.

Upcoming Events

Thursday, January 23rd: Game Night at The Hall

Winter brings with it great card game weather. We'll be meeting up at The Hall (111 S 11th St, West Des Moines, IA 50265) at 6:30pm to hang out and play games. Feel free to bring some games if you have them, especially ones that are good for groups. The Hall has food and drinks available for purchase.

If you have any questions, please ask event hosts Matthew Johll and Joanna Burgarino.

Thursday, January 30th: Rock Climbing Night

Please join us at Climb Iowa for rock climbing! We'll be meeting at Climb Iowa East Village (150 E 4th St, Des Moines, IA 50309) starting at 6:30pm. The price for first time visitors is about $11 (includes the necessary gear) and those who have been to before can get a day pass for $15 and shoes. Chalk is optional, but if you'd like some there is a small charge for it ($2).

No previous rock-climbing experience is needed! You're also welcome to come watch if you don't want to climb. After climbing, we'll probably go hang out at Peace Tree Brewing.

Whether you're climbing or just watching and cheering on the others, you will need to sign a Visitor Agreement found here: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/59234d421fdfd/web/

If you have any question, please contact Claire Sevenich. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Thursday, February 6th: Disciples Night hosted by i.d.9:16

We'll be joining the new Des Moines chapter of i.d.9:16 for their monthly Disciples Night, which includes Mass, dinner, and a short video on a topic relevant to young adult Catholics, and then discussion. All are welcome--you don't need to be part of an i.d.9:16 small group to participate! The event begins at 6pm and will take place at St. Theresa's parish (1230 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines). Please contact  Blake Riffel with any questions.

Thursday, February 13th: Theology on Tap

Theology on Tap is back for its spring series! Friendship today can be a bit weird, but it can also be tremendously life-giving, especially when it is centered around a friendship with God Himself. In this spring Theology on Tap series, we will take a closer look at the theology of friendship.

All events will be at the Sherwood Forest Event Center (7400 Hickman Road, Windsor Heights), and will start with a dinner/social hour at 6pm. The talk begins at 7pm. Food will be available for free each night, so come hungry! All evenings will end with a Q&A with the speaker. Theology on Tap is FREE and open to all young adults. It is a great opportunity for folks who may have been away from the Church for a bit but want to get connected again—be sure to invite your friends!

Our first speaker is the Most Rev. William M. Joensen, Ph.D., who was ordained and installed as the 10th bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines on Sept. 27, 2019.
