Advance Directives

No one thinks: “Today is the day I’m going to become very sick.” COVID-19 is a reminder that there are unexpected illness that can affect our loved ones. More common ailments impact Americans every day, some so serious that family members find themselves having to make difficult decisions about the measures to sustain their lives. Would your loved ones know what your wishes are? The four dioceses of Iowa worked to compile several helpful documents and links related to end-of-life issues. The Archdiocese of Dubuque has a wonderful resource page on its website offering Advance Directive guidelines that are in sync with Catholic teaching, health care ethics and more. Specifically regarding COVID-19, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and the Catholic Health Association of the United States have put together a wonderful Q&A regarding sacramental practice during the pandemic. We hope you find it helpful and comforting during these difficult days.
