The Diocese of Des Moines produces two radio shows that air on Catholic radio stations in and around the diocese.
In the Heartland with Bishop Pates
“In the Heartland With Bishop Pates” is a weekly radio show broadcast live on Fridays from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. on KWKY 1150 AM in Des Moines and KVSS 102.7 FM in Omaha. It can also be heard online at www.kvss.com.
Listeners: The show reaches from Lincoln, Neb. to the west to Atlantic, Iowa to the east.
Hosts: Hosted by Bishop Richard Pates (link to his page) and Dr. Thomas Neal, director of the St. Joseph Educational Center, the show focuses on local and national issues of importance related to the Catholic faith.
Format: Segment 1: Bishop Pates talks with Dr. Neal about current events
Segments 2 & 3: Bishop Pates and Dr. Neal discuss a topic in depth, interview local
and nationally known experts on the matter
Segment 4: Bishop welcomes calls at 515-223-1150. Questions can be e-mailed ahead of
time to firstname.lastname@example.org and Bishop will address them during this last
segment of the show.

The Catholic Spotlight
“The Catholic Spotlight” was a weekly pre-recorded radio show produced by the diocesan Communications Office highlighting people, events and programs of the diocese. The show aired on Fridays at 1 p.m. and repeats Saturdays at 2 p.m. on KWKY 1150 AM Catholic radio covering central Iowa. The show is no longer produced by the diocese.
