Belonging: Tips and Tools for All Learners in our Faith Formation Programs

The Fall Ministry Day focuses on formation with persons with disability.  The vibrant workshops will help you provide faith formation that is inclusive and ensures that all members of the Body of Christ are welcomed, valued, and given the opportunity to grow spiritually.

Agenda for the Day:

  • 9:00 am – Social gathering with light breakfast items provided by the Diocese
  • 9:30 am – Opening prayer service and introductions
  • 9:40 am – "Classroom Management and Family/Child Disability Interview/Education Plan" with Kate McIntire
  • 11:15 am – "Engaging our Brains with Music and Movement" with Tracy Armano
  • 12:15 pm – Diocesan updates and meal prayer followed by lunch provided by the Diocese
  • 1:15 pm – "Why Can't I Sit Still?" with Gloria Frolek Clark
  • 2:30 pm – Closing prayer

Classroom Management and Family/Child Disability Interview/Education Plan.

  • Description:  Simple to implement, key points to consider that benefit all in faith formation—but especially those with disabilities.   This can also be utilized for those parishes with family faith formation. 
  • Presenter: Kate McInroy, retired special education teacher

Engaging our Brains with Music and Movement

  • Description: Incorporating music and movement into faith formation creates permanent pathways in the brain.  When you add in the limbic system by movement, our brains light up.   This session is about sharing easy ideas to add into our faith formation programs.
  • Presenter: Tracy Armano, board-certified music therapist

Why Can't I Sit Still?

  • Description:  Regulating our sensations, emotions, and behavior is known as self-regulation.  This working session will briefly describe the four components of sensory regulation and provide several research-based strategies designed for children with sensory challenges.  These can be used to assist children with attention, learning, and social participation during faith formation sessions.
  • Presenter Gloria Frolek Clark, PhD, OTR/L, BCP, FAOTA is Board Certified in Pediatrics and has provided children, families, and educators with occupational therapy services for over 45 years.  She has completed research, published articles, and written chapters related to children and youth’s sensory integration and processing development and challenges.
