Diocese mourns the loss of two faithful servants

The Diocese mourns two faithful servants this week.

Father Michael “Mike” McLaughlin, born in 1956, died Jan. 7 at age 66.

Visitation will be Jan. 13 from 4-7 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 14 beginning at 11 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Father McLaughlin will be buried at ST. Patrick at Irish Settlement cemetery in Cumming. Here is a link to his obituary.

Deacon Steven Reed, born in 1948, died Jan. 9 at age 74.

A visitation will be Jan. 12 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Des Moines. A graveside service will follow at beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 2010. He served at St. Mary of Nazareth and Christ the King Parishes before retirement. See his full obituary here.
