A Three-Part Series on Faith and Immigrants

St. Anthony Parish - A History of Immigrants

Part 1 of this series focuses on the Italian immigrants who helped found St. Anthony Church in Des Moines. In this interview with the former pastor, Monsignor Frank Chiodo (also a descendant of Italian immigrants), he describes how the Catholic faith was (and still is) extremely important to the Italians.

St. Anthony's Parish - The Sisters Who Helped Immigrants

In Part 3 of this three-part series, we hear from Sister Elaine Hagedorn and Sister Jeanie Hagedorn of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, who helped Jessica Hernandez and her mother get settled in Des Moines. The sisters were the hands and feet of Christ - offering friendship, support, prayers and welcome to the stranger.
