Technology Department & Resources

Along with maintaining all technology for those housed at the Catholic Pastoral Center, the Technology Department also provides support as needed to parishes, schools and Diocesan organization staff.  Our Technology Coordinator sustains the licensing and installations of certain software applications as well as database integrity and security, hardware maintenance and perhaps most importantly, cyber safety training and instruction to assist everyone in a smooth workflow.  For more information or questions, please feel free to contact Greg Miller, Technology Coordinator (515) 237-5007.

Cyber Liability Tech Survey

Renewing the cyber liability insurance policy is an annual event that requires the cooperation of all parishes, schools and diocesan entities.  To ensure coverage at each site, the Technology Department sends out an annual Tech Survey with questions from the Cyber Liability Insurance Renewal Application.  Completing the survey can mean the difference between having a claim approved or denied.  It is no longer the time to think "if" the bad guys will get to you, it's become a matter of when.  If you are unsure whether the safety measures at your parish, school or entity are in compliance with the underwriter's requirements, please reach out to our Technology Coordinator by email or phone (515) 237-5007.

Cyber Safety Training

The Diocese takes cyber safety and training seriously. Using the platform provided byKnowbe4®, our staff is routinely exposed to "security awareness training and simulated phishing to drive awareness and change user behavior".  However, there is a cost to this service which may be prohibitive to most of the parishes, schools and other organizations.  Because of this, we recommend utilizing the free catalog of cyber safety training to be found atCatholic Mutual Group: CMG Connect which provides "mini webinars", many less than 10 minutes, such as "Cyber Awareness:  Phishing, Ransomware, and Multimedia" and the "Cyber Security eLearning Series".

Please note: CMG Connect is available to all entities in the Diocese. To access all training, go to desmoines.cmgconnect.org and register for a new account.

Tech Policies

Included in the "Employee Success Manual" issued by the Human Resources department is the Electronic and Computer Policy beginning on page 21. We encourage the adoption of these policies and procedures in the employee manuals of all parishes, schools and Diocesan organizations.  By doing so, it can aid in improving efficiencies, reducing costs, and increasing productivity.

Computer Usage Policy

All diocesan employees sign the Computer Usage Policy which outlines the use of diocesan computer equipment.
