What is the Annual Diocesan Appeal?
The Annual Diocesan Appeal supports the Bishop and ministries of the Diocese of Des Moines. The appeal provides almost three fourths of the operating revenue the Diocese needs to fulfill its vital mission on an annual basis. Learn what the ADA supports. The remainder of the operating revenue is generated through grants, fees, and endowment earnings.
The Stewardship Office works in collaboration with parishes to coordinate a direct mail request to all registered parishioners in the Diocese. Pastors are encouraged to conduct an appeal in Mass during Annual Diocesan Appeal weekend using the ADA video.
How is the ADA assessed?
The formula for the ADA goal is based upon income less any exempt expenses. Each parish has a goal that is fundraised rather than assessed as a cathedraticum (a tax that is charged to the parishes to cover operating costs of the Chancery, health insurance, and/or pension expenses). Parishes are responsible for providing for any remaining goal balances not raised by the end of the ADA. A parish and school resource manual is provided to all parishes to assist with the details of the record-keeping associated with the appeal.
